A Lasting Memorial to

The Reverend Dr Fred McKay AC, CMG, OBE, MA, BD, Hon LLD

St Philip's College, Alice Springs

"Rev Fred on duty in Italy with RAAF Units"

Most of you will know that Reverend Fred McKay passed away on March 31, 2000. On behalf of the Squadron, Paul and Shorty both wrote letters of condolence to his family, as I am sure many of you who knew and loved Fred did. His obituary was posted on this website for approximately two months.

We received a very gracious acknowledgment of our notes from the McKay Family. Recently we were honoured to receive Invitations to the dedication of the Fred and Meg McKay Peace Garden where Fred's ashes will rest. This garden will be on the grounds of St. Philip's College in Alice Springs, NT - a school for outback children that was a project near and dear to Fred's heart. The dedication of the garden will be on Saturday August 6th at 2:30 p.m. Unfortunately neither Shorty nor I can make that long long trip from Canada to Alice Springs, much as we would love to do so.

We have also been invited to make a donation to the Fred McKay Memorial Fund - a truly ambitious project to provide an Education Centree, Scholarships and a Community Chapel at the school.

Given our commitment to putting any money made from the sale of our squadron history back into the Always Ahead Scholarship Fund, we think that this is a grand idea and will be making personal donations. We encourage all members of the 150 squadron community to donate to this fund in memory of Fred's work and life.

More information can be obtained by writing to the school at:

We hope you will consider helping this worthy memorial to a man who was very much a part of 150 Squadron's history.
