Activities

Our activities are many and varied and in a large part related to raising funds in order that we can provide assistance to people and organizations within our community. Preference is given to projects where we plan the event and which involves our members in a hands on reponse.

Our club is one of several service clubs in the community, therefore, we have an inter-club arrangement to avoid duplication of charitable donations and to address those needs that are beyond the capability of any one club. Our community services committee evaluate all requests for assistance and make recommendations as to where limited resources would be most effective.

To raise funds we sell Kiwanis Christmas cakes each year in October and November. Under an "Even Up" program, boxes are located at grocery store check out counters and customers are asked to donate their change to the Perth and District food bank. We also stage week-end barbecues at local shopping centers. Hand made quilts have been produced and raffle tickets sold at local functions. Advertisers take space in our children's books and we deliver for the publisher. We are of course always on the look-out for new projects.

Some of the other activities in which one or more of our members participate are as follows:

The Perth Food bank

Tay Gardens Apartments

Meals on Wheels

Local sports events

Santa Claus Parade

School breakfasts

Terrific Kids program

Youth Activities programs

SalvationArmy Christmas kettles

Rideau Lake Home Support Group

Alzheimer Society

Lanark County is recognized as the maple syrup capital of Ontario and once a year Perth celebrates "Festival of the Maples". Producers set up street displays of maple syrup and related products. During this event we have a food concession booth where we sell freshly prepared "Buffalo Burgers". (Buffalo meat on a bun).
